For a Private Client
Harper Architects was engaged by a private client to provide architectural services for this residential extension within the West Midlands Green Belt, located in Balsall Common. The proposals were for an extension and conversion of an existing double detached garage providing a family room/garden room at ground floor together with home office suite over.
The new extension was designed with sustainability and high thermal performance in mind utilising a timber frame solution for the new build element which could be highly insulated between and on the inside of the timbers. Vertical black timber provides the external cladding wrapping the new build extension and providing a contemporary design solution and contrast against the existing brick work garage. The new build extension was also designed with green sedum roof reducing water run-off together with a new roof lantern bringing light into this new ground floor entertainment space. The upper floor saw the proposal of a large dormer roof window allowing more headroom and a greater use and flexibility of the existing space.
Harper Architects have been successful in responding to the client’s brief, bringing about design solutions and obtaining statutory permissions including both Planning and Building Control for this project.
